True Lies, though it received positive reviews and received nominations from the Academy of Country Music for 1998's top new female artist it failed to have an lasting impression. In her next album, 1998's No Place That Far, Evans acknowledged producers who convinced her to freshen up her music which eventually earned her the acceptance she'd sought from the time she was a child.
